How are viewers informed about this change?

Unlike other subscription-based streaming services that remove tranches of content without notifying their users, we value our viewers and recognise content changes can take some getting used to.  While we're unable to prevent this change from taking place (here's why), every effort has been made to notify viewers who may be affected by this change.

A media release was issued to news outlets on December 1st 2020 to announce the planned removal of TVNZ OnDemand shows from Freeview On Demand.

From 24 May 2021, onscreen notifications* will be displayed on Freeview On Demand:

  1. Two full-screen notices are displayed the first time you go to Freeview On Demand to inform you that TVNZ OnDemand is leaving on 28 June 2021.  See screen 1 here and screen 2 here.
  2. You'll see onscreen prompts across all TVNZ shows on Freeview On Demand.
  3. A short message is displayed whenever a TVNZ show is loading.
  4. Expiry dates displayed on all TVNZ OnDemand shows will be updated on 24 May to countdown towards the removal date.

All registered users of Freeview On Demand are also informed and reminded via emails on 24 May 2021 and just prior to the actual removal date in late June.

You can find out more here about this change, check your device here to see if it has direct access to TVNZ OnDemand, and get in touch with us about this change here.

*The onscreen notifications are displayed on Freeview On Demand across all devices except on the DISH TV A2 Recorder and the Smart TV app on 2016 Samsung TVs, as those devices could not update to the required software version.
