How do I get Freeview?
Everyone in New Zealand can get Freeview. Even better, you can choose from a range of products to suit how you want your Freeview.
With the right product and set up, you can enjoy fantastic TV, how you want to, and all free.
The right product for you depends on two things:
- The Freeview options you want: Live TV, Streaming TV and Record options are available and you can get a mix or all of these options depending on the product you choose to use.
- Your TV antenna: You need a TV antenna to pick up TV signal – this can be a UHF aerial or a satellite dish, depending on your coverage.
Most products in stores work with either a UHF aerial or a satellite dish, so it’s important to select a product that works with your TV antenna. There are also dual tuner TVs available now, perfect if you’re unsure about the type of TV antenna you’re using.
If you don’t have a TV antenna, you can get one installed. See this installer directory here to get a direct quote from installers in your area.

Set up
Once you’ve selected a product, follow the first time set up process to tune in the channels, refer to the instructions manual or set up guide that comes with your TV, set top box or recorder for more information.
If you need help with set up, you can post tips for free from the viewer community on the forum here, or contact an installer in your area. Installers will charge you for their services, so it’s best to get an idea of cost beforehand.
